Nametag released the 2nd installment of the "Classic Cadence" mixtape
series presented by Dub MD back on August 10th 2009 as a free download
online. The mixtape was a musical effort that had us ending our summer
just right, with production from Black Milk, Black Bethoven, Doc
Illingsworth and a host of features from Quest M.C.O.D.Y, Moe Dirdee,
Street Justice, Skyzoo and more.
After losing his mother to breast cancer in early October 2009, Tag
decided to do what most of us call "fading to black". After about a
month of grieving, being uninspired to write, not even attending major
events on the Detroit music scene, Nametag finally crawled from behind
the rock he hid behind. Although still dealing with a loss, the Michigan
emcee decided to jump right back into the studio to continue work on his
forthcoming album "The Name Is Tag". The album will feature mass
production from Black Milk, Black Bethoven and Chris Sholar. Artist
features on the album have not yet been mentioned. The album is set to
be released in March or April 2010 at the latest.
Before the release of the official album in March or April 2010, Nametag
plans to release a free 5-6 song EP online produced entirely by Black
Bethoven titled "The Soul System". The EP will be presented by Dub MD
and set for a February 2010 release, supposedly on the Universal indie
label. There's more to speak but we're not going to give it all away but
keep your ears open for the authentic hip hop sound Nametag has to offer
for 2010.
